How I finally made my own wedding album (a confession from the founder)

We got married back in 2022. And, slightly embarrassingly for someone who runs a photo book company, I only finally made our own wedding album last year.

The truth is simple: I spend most of my time working on other people’s books. My own always slipped to the bottom of the list.

But when I finally sat down to make it, I realized something important — creating a beautiful wedding photo album doesn’t need to be complicated. It just needs a clear process. This is exactly how I made ours.

1. Start with the right photos

Our photographer sent us a USB drive with what they considered the best images from the day — all beautifully edited.

The only problem? There were 1,390 photos.

At Inkifi, we usually recommend around 120 photos across 60–70 pages for a luxury wedding album. That gives you a book that feels rich and complete without becoming cluttered. So my job was to get from 1,390 photos down to roughly one in ten.

What helped was thinking in terms of the story of the day:

  • The bridal party getting ready
  • The groomsmen getting ready
  • The walk to the ceremony
  • The service
  • After the ceremony
  • The reception
  • The speeches
  • The first dance
  • The party afterwards

Within each part of the day, I looked for two types of images:

  • Unstaged moments — laughter, nerves, hugs, and little glances.
  • A few classic portraits — the ones everyone expects to see.

Jamie’s note: One thing I’m always careful about is making sure everyone important appears at least once. A wedding album lives on a coffee table. Friends and family will leaf through it. Including a full group shot is an easy way to make sure nobody feels left out.

How I culled them

I created a folder on my computer called “Book.” I went through every photo in order, and whenever one felt right, I copied it into that folder. That first pass left me with around 300 images. I then went through those again and trimmed it down to about 120 photos — the ones that best told the story.

2. Choose the right book

For our album, I chose the Luxury Linen Wedding Album.

It’s the most premium book we make: a real fabric cover, foil-stamped title, and layflat pages printed on archival Fuji photo paper. It offers deep blacks, sharp detail, and long-term durability — designed to be an heirloom.

I went for the 10×10 inch size — big enough to feel special, but perfect for a coffee table. I chose a cream linen cover and kept the title simple:

Paul & Naomi — July 22, 2022

3. Upload and design

Once the book is selected, you upload your photos into the editor. You can either let the system automatically place them, or drag them into the page layouts yourself.

The templates are designed to make the most of your images, so even if you don’t touch a thing, the book already looks good. If you add extra pages, the layout from the previous page is carried forward, which makes it easy to extend the book while keeping a consistent look.

4. Place the order

Once you’re happy, you place the order. Within a few working days, the finished album is handcrafted and shipped — a real, tangible record of your wedding day, ready to live on your coffee table and be passed around for years to come.

— Paul Mosley, Founder of Inkifi

What should I title my wedding album?

One of the most surprisingly difficult parts of creating a wedding album is deciding what to put on the cover.

To help you get unstuck, I looked back at the last batch of wedding albums we handcrafted here in the USA. The titles couples chose were wonderfully varied, but they fell into a few clear patterns. Below are real examples (anonymized) to spark your creativity.

1. Names and date (the most popular choice)

  • Chris & Taylor — 10/14/2024
  • John & Anna — 03/29/2025
  • Kaley & Quinlan Furumo — August 16, 2025
  • Magle & Roy — 09/01/2024

2. The family name

  • The Hales
  • Mr. & Mrs. Sloss
  • Anna & Shelley DuBois
  • T H E  D O Z I E R S (a modern, spaced-out style)

3. Dates only

  • 8.22.2025
  • March 20, 2021
  • 10.20.24
  • Est. 1985 (perfect for anniversary or parent albums)

4. Descriptive and detailed

  • Caleb & Charlee Warner — Our Wedding 11/19/2024
  • Wedding Portraits — 2/21/25
  • Our Engagement Story

5. Simple and classic

  • Our Wedding
  • Abby & Alex
  • Reena & John

How to choose the right one for you

There’s no right or wrong answer — but most people are happiest when they keep it simple. Names, dates, or family titles almost always age better than anything too clever.

If you’re unsure, you can’t go wrong with: your names + your wedding date. It’s classic for a reason.

What size wedding album should I choose?

Choosing a size can be tricky — it’s hard to visualize how big a book will actually feel in your hands just by looking at dimensions on a screen.

To give you a better idea of what other couples are doing, I analyzed the last 80 premium linen wedding albums we printed. The results were surprisingly decisive: half of all couples chose the largest square option.

Here’s what couples are choosing most often:

1. The statement piece: 12×12 square (50% of orders)

The verdict: The clear favorite.

Why couples choose it: This is the ultimate heirloom size. A 12×12 album creates a huge 24-inch panoramic view when opened flat, so your “hero shots” — wide ceremony scenes, epic portraits, landscapes — really shine. If you want your album to be the centerpiece of your coffee table, this is the one.

2. The modern classic: 10×10 square (17.5% of orders)

The verdict: A perfect balance.

Why couples choose it: If 12×12 feels a little too imposing for your space, 10×10 is the “Goldilocks” size — big enough to do justice to professional photography, but easy to handle. It’s also a popular choice for parent albums.

3. The classics: 8×10 landscape & portrait (32.5% of orders)

The verdict: The versatile choice.

  • Landscape (17.5%): Great for cinematic wide shots and group photos.
  • Portrait (15%): Ideal if your photographer shot mostly vertical close-ups and portraits.

Note: Many couples choose these sizes for duplicate albums to gift to parents or bridal parties.

Jamie’s tip: how to decide

If you’re torn, look at your digital gallery.

  • If your photographer took huge, dramatic wide shots: go 12×12 or 8×10 landscape.
  • If your photos are intimate, candid, and close-up: go 10×10.

But the data speaks for itself — when it comes to your primary wedding album, bigger is usually better.
